Improving Environmental and Social Information
Canada needs to improve its system of measuring the state of our environment and its contribution to national prosperity.
- The federal government should adopt the recommendation of the National
Round Table on the Environment and the Economy that it supplement
existing economic indicators with six measures of natural and human
capital in order to better assess the specific country's ability to
provide enhanced quality of life now and for future generations.
- An increasing number of major corporations across Canada now supplement their financial reports with information on the company's environmental and social performance as part of its responsibility to employees, shareholders, governments, citizens and the communities in which they operate. The CCCE supports greater transparency in this and other areas as a key element of good corporate governance.
