Trade and the Environment
Trade and environmental policy internationally must be properly aligned in order to promote sustainable growth and enhanced environmental standards worldwide.
- Enabling trade and foreign direct investment can bring new and cleaner forms of technology to developing countries as well as provide additional resources to fund environmental solutions.
- At the same time, developed countries must encourage coherent and transparent approaches to global environmental issues in order to lessen the concerns of developing countries that environmental standards can become a disguised form of protectionism.
